Kali Karakasidou | Office of Information Technology Dec 3, 2019Similar to last month, this month’s release is a bit lighter than normal due to our heads-down work on upgrading to Bootstrap4 to prepare for the Sitefinity v12 upgrade happening in Q1 2020. However, read on to learn more about the small but mighty features and enhancements you can utilize and enjoy now!
馃敟Hot Releases of the Month
Bootstrap4 Upgrade
We’ve successfully upgraded our code base from Bootstrap3 to a more modernized and efficient code base – Bootstrap4! This was the first step in our effort to upgrade Sitefinity to version 12.2, which comes with immense performance and user experience improvements. Please submit a ticket if you see any oddities on your website and we will help fix those.
Alphabetizing widgets in the Toolbox
In effort to improve the page building experience, we’ve updated the content types and widgets in the toolbox to appear alphabetically .
馃ぉ Other Features & Enhancements
Theme for Colorado School of Public Health
Due to Colorado School of Public Health being a three-university entity, to support their transition from SharePoint to Sitefinity, we developed a custom theme for them using the branded colors/visual identity of CSPH.
Accreditation field in Academic Programs
To enhance Academic Program pages, we’ve added a field in the “At a Glance” module that provides site builders the opportunity to highlight accreditation(s) of academic programs.
Bold & italics in Facts & Figures widget
As an iteration to Facts & Figures, you are now able to bold and/or italicize text.
Added categories & tags to Enhanced Cards, FAQ items
We have added the categories and tag classifications to Enhanced Cards and FAQ items content types.
Image captions
We have turned on the ability for you to add captions to your images. Adding captions is not a requirement, however if you add them, they will show in the image content type and image gallery.
Small, medium, and large Call-to-Actions (CTAs)
We have built the ability for you to select small, medium, or large font sizes for CTAs (content block CTA, call-to-action, and CTA) so that you can better structure the hierarchy of CTAs on pages. We have also added in several options for the width of the Call-to-Action content type.
Turned off form attachment field
For security reasons, we have turned off the form attachment field in a Sitefinity field.
Added a new image gallery template with no thumbnail
We’ve developed a new template for image galleries that allows you to hide thumbnails.
Switch primary & secondary degrees in Academic Program page
In the Academic Program content type, we’ve flipped secondary and primary degrees so that primary degrees – like Masters, Bachelors, Doctorate – will always come before secondary – like Licensure, Certificate.
馃悶Bug Fixes
November’s release is addressing the following bugs:
- Ordered & Unordered Lists didn’t take up the full width of their container
- Simple list image gallery template header didn’t wrap responsively to screen size.
- Hero video & carousel play/pause button not centered in Internet Explorer.
- People content type: hyperlinked Research and Doctor profile inputs
What’s Coming up in December/January:
In the next two months, our team’s priorities are the following:
- Support the Office of Digital Education’s goals in developing a custom theme for them and custom widget solutions.
- Upgrade Sitefinity to Version 12.2 and turn on the new back-end interface (we’ll be in touch more about this!)
- Kick-start our user testing efforts in and beyond the University, including user testing our hypotheses on the navigation.
- Onboard Atlassian tools (JIRA, Confluence, BitBucket) to optimize our project and code management processes.
- Continue doing discovery work on the following projects: People content type performance & SEO enhancements, Site-wide page properties, Newsroom 2.0, HawkSearch (or enterprise-wide solution), Keyword search on content types and widgets, Timeline widget
