AAC Tablet Based Devices

Did you know?

Colorado Medicaid does not recognize an iPad or other tablet as Durable Medical Equipment (DME), so you cannot request Medicaid funding for a tablet as a Speech Generating Device (SGD). In order to request Medicaid funding, you must request a dedicated SGD by name, even if it is a tablet-based device. While tablets can be useful screening or practice tools, they cannot be included in an AAC evaluation report with a funding request. Your AAC evaluation report must include:

  • Documentation of trial of at least 3 dedicated SGDs from at least 2 manufacturers
  • Documentation of trial of at least 2 different vocabulary systems

Our loan library has a wide variety of tablet-based AAC devices available for you to trial with the children you support! Here are some of the options that are currently available for purchase, as of April 2025. (There are additional tablet-based devices in the loan library that are available for trial but are no longer available for purchase).
