Preparing for Repayment

Graduating, leaving school, or enrolling less than half-time

If you are graduating, stopped attending, or are no longer enrolled at least half-time, complete exit loan counseling to prepare for loan repayment. Federal student loan borrowers have a six-month grace period before you begin making payments. A grace period ends 6 months after you drop below half-time enrollment or stop attending. Use this time to get organized and choose a repayment plan.
