Fresh Start Program

The University of Colorado Denver believes that sometimes it’s nice to have a fresh start. We designed our Fresh Start program to provide previous Ö÷²¥ÓÕ»ó students who left the university with a cumulative GPA below 2.0 or on academic probation or suspension with the opportunity to return to Ö÷²¥ÓÕ»ó to complete their degree. Students re-admitted under this program will start a new Ö÷²¥ÓÕ»ó GPA. This program is only applicable to Ö÷²¥ÓÕ»ó courses and only on the Ö÷²¥ÓÕ»ó campus.

Am I eligible?

Previously enrolled undergraduate degree-seeking Ö÷²¥ÓÕ»ó students who left the university with lower than a 2.0 cumulative GPA and who have been away from the university for three consecutive academic terms (e.g., spring, summer, and fall) are eligible to apply for the Fresh Start program.

How does it work?

1. You take at least one full academic year (three terms—e.g., spring, summer, and fall) away from Ö÷²¥ÓÕ»ó in order to gain perspective and reflect upon your previous experience.  During your time away, you will have readied yourself to return to Ö÷²¥ÓÕ»ó with a fuller understanding of the challenges you faced and strengthened priorities to move you forward.
   
   
2. Submit a degree-seeking application for admission.
   
   
3. Your application will be reviewed and you will receive communication from the Office of Ö÷²¥ÓÕ»ó that will direct you to your academic advising office.
   
   
4. You will then discuss your next steps to Fresh Start and select courses for your intended major with your advisor. In the meantime, please review the Fresh Start and Financial Aid (link above).
   
   
5. After meeting with your advisor and reviewing the Fresh Start and Financial Aid document, you will opt into the Fresh Start program by submitting the Fresh Start Statement of Understanding Form, which you will receive from your advisor. If you anticipate needing financial aid support, you are strongly encouraged to meet with a financial aid advisor before opting into the program.

Deadlines

University application deadlines are listed below. All application materials must be submitted within a week of the deadline to be considered for that academic start term.

• Summer 2025: May 23, 2025
• Fall 2025: July 31, 2025
• Spring 2026: January 2, 2026
